Hmm… I’ve never tried to use Golduck on a Rain Team before. Maybe I should try it soon…
Special: (Golduck does Special better)
Golduck (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump / Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Ground]
Life Orb makes Golduck hit harder, and even though it strips away HP, it doesn’t really matter, as this Pokemon wouldn’t survive a hit anyway. Scald is your STAB, and it gets a boost in the rain. (Burn chance anyone?) Ice Beam is coverage, and it also has a Freeze rate, which is nifty. HP Ground covers lots of types, and it has coverage, and it’s used over Mud Bomb, since HP Ground has more power, and more accuracy. Finally, Psyshock is for destroying Special walls that would otherwise wall me out (Blissey especially).
Physical: (Not so great, but it might work)
Golduck (M) @ Choice Scarf / Choice Band
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) / Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Shadow Claw
- Aerial Ace
- Brick Break
NOTE: Use the Scarf for the Adamant nature, and the Band for the Jolly nature. Alright, Physical. Not the best Physical movepool, but it might work. Swift Swim is one of the only benefits of this set, but as a result, you don’t get Ice Punch! Argh! Waterfall is your STAB, and gets a Rain boost, so it’s nice. Shadow Claw kills off Ghost types that might appear, plus I don’t have much else to use. Aerial Ace is coverage against Grass types, along with having infinite accuracy. Finally, Brick Break is just a really good covering move, and it breaks Screens. With Shadow Claw and Brick Break, everything is hit at least normally effective.
Conclusion: Not the best Rain Pokemon, but it’s actually pretty good. Gets Swift Swim boosts, but as a result, loses some of it’s better moves. It at least gets the under appreciated Claw-Break combo.
Rating In The Rain: 6.5/10
